Well since things are fairly slow on the new-Chili-Peppers-related-stuff I thought I'd throw out an old-Chili-Peppers-related-thing..

So what I have here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NRUM4VB8

are the old Dave Navarro/Chad Smith -Spread demos

now, for those of you who aren't familiar with this, either because you're fairly new to the Chili Peppers univeres..or you just kind of tuned out for the Navarro years, I'll give you a lil backstory..

Soooo yeah...for those of you who read Anthony's book you know that there was a real lag there twords the end of Daves time with the group..both from what Anthony and Dave were struggling with in thier personal lives and addiction and not alot was getting done on the R.H.C.P. front..

Well Dave and Chad got together and made an album that was going to be called "Spread: Unicorns & Rainbows the Pellican"

..the title was of course very tonge in cheek...

but yeah they recorded this album in Daves place a bit before Dave and Flea went off to do the Jane's Addiction relapse (that's Flea on bass on the song "Everything")..

..then while on tour Daves drug problems got worse n worse..then the split with the Peppers came and for a while he was pretty estranged from everyone in the group (even Chad)...

..then he pretty much just sat on these tracks for a couple of years...reworking them re-cutting Chads drums with a different drummer and tweeking the songs over..and over...and over again..eventually releasing them (most of them anyway) as the album "Trust No One"...

by this point the album (in my personal opinion) was nowhere near as interesting as these original versions...I feel like "Trust No One" ended up sounding very over-produced and like a watered-down Nine Inch Nails wanna be album....like he was trying to make something that sounded "current" and "hot"..(I love N.I.N....so thats not a slam against Trent in any way..I'm saying when someone trys to adapt someone elses style it never really sounds as good as the originator...).....I feel like "Trust No One" lacked alot of the different *colors* that "Spread" had....

I think that anyone who's a creative person sometimes runs the risk that, if they keep whatever they're working on around for too long they want to keep changing things around...they get bored with other things...they have new ideas...and on and on.....now sometimes that is a good thing...sometimes that makes a creation stronger....but sometimes ,(and I think this was the case with Daves album)..you can over work something and end up making it very bland...

...Dave has always been very interactive with his fans...he maintained his own website back in the 90's that was actually pretty involved for what was esentially a html site..there were many secret little links that lead to other secret links and so on and so on...and he would always be updating something..or putting something up for a day and then removing it....he eventually released all these songs over time to the fans if they could find them on his site....so this link doesn't violate any terms as far as copywrited material or anything...it's basicly alot like Johns internet album...but over a longer period of time..and more like a scavenger hunt...so enjoy without guilt

Merry Christmas
